Well as promised, lets kick things off, and in true Sound of Music fashion, let’s start at the very beginning.
What little girl doesn’t dream of one of those Clueless closets, those endless revolving racks of clothes? Or perhaps those Princess Diaries drawers of tiaras and jewellery, or for some you’d gladly settle for a shoe collection that would make Imelda Marcos envious. Well for me, it was all the above…from the comfort of my bed.
As a 23 year old girl, I loved those infamous adventure weekends that only Australia could offer, and loathed the idea of the pin bursting the bubble that inevitably came around every Monday morning. This fabulous country that lies in the middle of nowhere is my home. Yes, we are ridiculously far from the rest of civilisation but I kind of like it that way. We have it all, extreme deserts that make us that sunburnt land, right through to unparalleled beaches complete with crystal clear water and white sand beaches as far as the eye can see.
I wanted everyone to be able to see my love of this country through my other love…clothes. And so, in true Monday morning style one day I just didn’t want to leave the comfort of my bed to face another week. What if I could work, earn a living, having everything I love right at my fingertips – without having to get out of bed. With this one thought, my dream of owning a store sprung into existence. And I quickly found my niche – only stocking Australian designers. My sister and I toyed with names eventually both came up with ‘SohoGirl’, and this one small step made it all seem so much more real. My family and friends were on board, and surprisingly so was everyone else I seemed to call. It became a reality.
From online to our first pop up store. From that pop up store to our now permanent home at Sanctuary Cove on the beautiful Gold Coast. I never wavered from the ideal to stock Australian designers, and now we have created such a beautiful and adoring fan base that spans across the globe.
We want to thank each and every one of you for your unwavering support over the years, and hopefully, we get to know each other a little better as we spread our wings tackle the internet in true Gen Y fashion.
Until next time. Xx
